Barre Physique: The Perfect Marriage of Methods

On the 24th of July PFI will be launching an all-new Barre format: hello, Barre Physique.

A fresh variation on the Attack method, Physique is like no Barre class you’ve done before, and the beauty of this format lies in its marriage of methods.

Barre Physique is an integrated, 50-minute format that applies sequences of Pilates movements at the barre and on the mat, and all done with pace! (To killer tunes, of course!)

Bringing a distinct Pilates-flavour to a HIIT and isometric, Barre foundation; Physique sequences are fluid (like a matwork or reformer class) and systematically work muscle groups to fatigue, bringing heat into the body. For active recovery, periods of hard work are spliced with flowing, full-range movement sequences.

PFI’s signature Barre Physique style is designed to sculpt your whole body. High intensity elements build endurance and burn fat, while Pilates exercises strengthen, lengthen and shape your muscles.

  1. Do I need to have experience with Barre?

No! In fact, all Barre styles at PFI (Attack and Physique) are ‘scalable’, which means you can jump into a class having never done one before, and you can progress your workout in whatever way feels right for your body.

However, Barre Physique is very different to Barre Attack!

While both are high intensity formats (so you will work hard!), Physique is ideal for (but not exclusive to) those with some familiarity/experience with the Pilates method and principles.

In short, if you have done Pilates matwork or reformer before, you will hit the ground running in Physique!

If you haven’t done much or any Pilates, PFI’s Instructors can adapt movements for you where needed.

 

  1. What equipment do you use In Barre Physique?

Barre Physique uses all the equipment you will be familiar with from matwork Pilates and Barre Attack classes, including:

  • TheraBand
  • Hand weights
  • Toning balls
  • Magic Circle
  • Pilates (blue) balls
  • The barre

 

  1. How would you rate the intensity of a Barre Physique class?

We’re not going to lie, Physique is a butt-kicking workout. But a great butt-kicking workout!

According to feedback, Barre Physique rates equal in intensity to the Attack format.

However, again, the focus and style are different to Attack, and so is how you will feel the work in your body.

 

  1. What are the benefits?
