Hips & Hormones
Hormones are the master controllers of the body. Remember the word homeostasis from high school Biology? It’s all about equilibrium in the body’s physical processes, and hormones are responsible for achieving and maintaining homeostasis.
Our hormones are optimal during reproductive years and remain so as long as our children are completely dependent upon us. Nature’s design is such that once our children are (somewhat) self-sufficient, our hormonal profile will change, often to sub-optimal levels: this is also known as ageing!
Suzanne is particularly passionate about how these naturally occurring changes to our hormone profile impact upon musculoskeletal systems and in turn, physical performance across all age brackets: from teens, through pregnancy and post-natal, and the big ones: peri- and post- menopause.
Musculoskeletal signs of hormone imbalance can include:
- Sore or aching joints, muscles or tendons.
- Muscle tension.
- Chronic pain.
- Reoccurring injury.
In Hips & Hormones Suzanne will be exploring how the Pilates method can offer therapeutic movement solutions to many of these symptoms by focusing on hip health and function.
We see direct links between hip strength, function and mobility and the body’s ability to regulate hormone levels, and move with ease and efficiency whether you’re in your 20s or 80s!
