Power Pilates at PFIWA

PFIWA offers a totally unique style of Pilates to Perth.

Power Pilates is an enhanced Pilates workout, specifically designed to give you a leaner, more toned physique, in a short length of time. This whole body and mind experience will sculpt your figure while re-energising your spirit.

Power Pilates intensifies the original Pilates moves, combining them with essential breathing techniques, resistance and repetition. Our classes deliver increased cardio benefits with unmatched muscle toning results. All Power Pilates classes aim to give you a balanced workout, therefore creating a balanced body.

Our Floor classes are a flowing integration of low impact Power Pilates moves, challenging your body to work against your body mass and the natural resistance of gravity. These mat exercises test your core balance and stability, building strength steadily, using small Pilates props for extra intensity and support.

Our Reformer classes use the same Power Pilates techniques, though the entire class is run on a Pilates Reformer machine. These machines are specifically designed to support your back and joints during the exercises, while still providing resistance with adjustable tension springs and pulleys.

What is Pilates?

Pilates is a physical fitness system that was developed in the early 20th century by Joseph Pilates. Pilates was formed by Joseph Pilates during the First World War with the intention to improve the rehabilitation programme for casualties. During this period, Pilates was designed to aid injured soldiers in regaining their health by strengthening, stretching, and stabilising key muscles.

Joseph used to say: ‘When I am dead, they’ll say “He was right”. I’m fifty years ahead of my time’.

And he was.

Joseph Pilates preferred fewer, more precise movements, requiring control and technique. He believed that mental and physical health were essential to one another, creating what is a method of total body conditioning. Pilates uses correct alignment, centering, concentration, control, precision, breathing, and flowing movement (the Pilates principles) to establish a perfect working body from the inside out.

Pilates classes help to build strength, flexibility and lean muscle tone with an emphasis on lengthening the body and aligning the spine, rather than on bulking and shortening the muscles which can cause numerous problems.

Pilates focus is on the core, which includes the muscles of the waist, abdominals and lower back. Because of its core focus, Pilates is popular not only in the field of fitness, but also in rehabilitation. It can be used to progress individuals through movements that represent their day-to-day activities. The focus on strengthening the core and improving postural awareness are especially well indicated for the alleviation and prevention of back, neck and joint pain.

"Patience and persistence are vital qualities in the ultimate successful accomplishment of any worthwhile endeavour."
