Pilates - get the training edge!
PFI works closely with soccer players, footballers, swimmers, runners and cyclists to assist them reach peak performance by incorporating Pilates into their training. Our Power Pilates decreases injury risk by working specifically on core stabilisation, joint support, active toning and flexibility.
We expect that you will see significant improvement in your balance, alignment and range of movement allowing you to work more efficiently in your chosen sport. The stablilsation of the core achieved through Pilates training carries easily into the sporting world reducing injury risks and improving performance.
Working with weight training
Pilates focuses on the deep core and supportive muscles as opposed to the outer global muscles that are commonly worked during weight training. Pilates exercises generally incorporate more muscles at one time than exercises performed on a weights machine and complements your weights training through increased muscle coordination, and the protection of joints through the recruitment and strengthening of 'local' core muscles.
Posture and alignment
Athletes are good at what they are do - and since it's Pilates is foreign, it forces you to think about what you are doing and return to basic training principles, then expands on what you already know. Good postural alignment helps you perform movements efficiently, significantly reducing unnecessary strain on the muscles and joints.
Injury prevention
In addition to the strengthening of core muscles, Pilates assists in injury prevention by increasing flexibility in key areas such as the lower back, hamstrings and and shoulders through controlled muscles lengthening. Strengthening of the deep muscles, and consciously retraining of muscle patterns can reduce incidents of repetitives strain injuries and can also correct movements that the body is using to compensate for old injuries.
Lung capacity
Pilates breathing increases lung capacity and greater control of breathing, aiding in stamina on and off the field. Controlled breathing also allows athletes to really focus and control precise movements.
What are the options?
Depending on the desired results, PFI can accommodate athletes in our regular matwork or Reformer classes or alternatively, we can arrange private sessions with a senior instructor through our Pilates Personal Training, who can individually assess your body and injury history in order to develop a complete, individual program.
At our Myaree studio we also have Spin classes available to increase your cardiovascular fitness, and a Remedial Massage Therapist on hand.
