Why We Recommend MSTR® for C-Section Scars and Postnatal Health

If you’ve had a caesarean birth, your scar is more than skin deep.

Scars from C-sections and any abdominal surgery can create adhesions in the connective tissue layers beneath the skin. These adhesions can interfere with natural movement, restrict organs, cause pulling sensations and even contribute to persistent issues like lower back pain, pelvic dysfunction, or difficulty activating your core muscles.

That’s where McLoughlin Scar Tissue Release® (MSTR) comes in.

What is MSTR®?

MSTR® is a gentle, hands-on technique specifically developed to work on scar tissue. It helps reduce adhesions, improve blood flow and support the body’s natural healing processes. Unlike deeper or more invasive manual therapy techniques, MSTR® uses precise, light pressure to encourage the tissue to soften and reorganise.

It’s safe, effective, and often incredibly relieving for people post-surgery.

Why Scar Tissue Needs Attention

C-section scars can cause internal restrictions that affect more than just the area of the incision. Because the fascia (connective tissue) runs throughout your entire body, tightness or binding at the scar site can create a domino effect.

Some common symptoms linked to unresolved scar tissue include:

  • Lower back, hip or pelvic pain

  • Reduced core strength or abdominal engagement

  • Urinary incontinence or urgency

  • Digestive discomfort or bloating

  • Emotional disconnection or discomfort touching the scar

Even years after birth, releasing scar tissue can unlock changes in posture, movement and body confidence.

What to Expect with MSTR®

During your MSTR® session, your practitioner will:

  • Take a short health history and discuss your experience around your scar.

  • Use gentle, pain-free techniques to work directly on the scar and surrounding tissue.

  • Re-assess mobility and function before and after your session.

Clients often report:

  • Improved appearance of the scar

  • More sensation and connection through their lower abdominals

  • Relief from lingering pain or tightness

  • Better posture and alignment

When Should You Start?

You can start MSTR® once your scar has fully closed and healed on the surface (usually around 8–12 weeks postpartum with medical clearance). However, even years later, MSTR® can provide significant benefit.

If you’ve had a C-section, we highly recommend booking in for scar tissue release.
It’s a simple step with powerful potential to support your postnatal recovery—both physically and emotionally.
